"I appreciate your help with remembering/providing hope for a Marine Corps family that has suffered a few too many big bumps.

I wanted to provide the names and a little bit of background: Lance Corporal Barton Carroll was on his way home from Jacksonville, NC on July 4th 2002 when he was attacked and killed in a gas station a few miles from his home in Portsmouth RI.

We met Liz Carroll and her children at the airport in 2003 when I was sending my kids to their dad for the first time after our separation. The Carroll family had just taken a vacation to Orlando to try to recover from the death of their son and were returning to Rhode Island. I was really nervous and she noticed and we started talking - I then noticed that she had a child with Down Syndrome (as do I) and that common ground kept us talking through the wait for the flight. She promised to watch out for my 4 kids while they were on the plane. Her daughter Lydia and my daughter Avery hit it off. They became best friends and during the 4 years that Avery lived in Rhode island with her dad.

Liz was the mom I could not be since I lived here in Virginia. When things got really rough with Avery's dad - Liz helped tremendously and for that I'm very grateful. Liz has been diagnosed with cancer (again) and the prognosis as of two weeks ago was 3 to 7 days. I know that she's still aware of her surroundings but I don't think she has very long and my daughter is very sad. That's why I'd like to (if we can) do a hopeful workout in honor of Barton but also in support of Liz during her battle. Thanks!! Linda"

Thanks to everyone for a strong effort today.
